Hello (former) Y11s,

Welcome to Modern British History.  Your Summer task has been designed to provide you with an overview of the beginning of the period you will be studying.  You need to complete Tasks 1-3 (below) and bring them to the first lesson with me after the Summer break.  You will then be ready to produce an essay which will be due the second week back.

The optional task is just that - it is an opportunity to relax and watch something about the period.

I look forward to seeing you in September!

Best wishes,

Mrs Bromley

Welcome to the Britain unit of A level History!

One half of your A-Level course will focus on twentieth century British History. The course begins in 1906. The purpose of these tasks is to encourage you to gain some useful background knowledge by researching what life was like for people in the Twentieth Century and to allow you to find out about the political and economic context of the period. The A-Level history course is an opportunity for you to broaden your individual wider reading and to do some independent research into what it was like to live through two world wars, see the emergence of the Labour Party, the demise of the Liberal Party and the formation of the Welfare State.

The following tasks have been designed to introduce you to the period you will be studying.

Tasks 1-5 involve you researching, planning and writing an essay on what Britain was like at the turn of the Twentieth Century - please bring your essay to the first BRITISH HISTORY lesson after the summer.

There is also an optional task involving watching historical fiction from the period.

Enjoy!

All the best,

Mrs Bromley and Mrs Birchill
