The 'Wilmslow Way’ applies in school, on the way to and from school and on school visits or activities.

We want all our students to take PRIDE in their behaviour and strive to achieve success in all that they do, both in and out of the classroom. This is at the heart of how we want to do things here at school – The Wilmslow Way!

The Wilmslow Way: Performing with PRIDE in the pursuit of excellence.

Professionalism
Respect
Integrity
Determination
Empathy

Sanctions for not following the WW can be issued by teachers, tutors, CTLs or teachers with a responsibility. They can range from a 10 minute referral to a 5 day suspension or in the most serious cases a permanent exclusion.

The poster below outlines the 'Wilmslow Way'.
The top half shows how you can gain achievement points for displaying excellence in the Wilmslow Way.
The bottom half explains the sanctions that will be imposed for students who fail to follow our behaviour and learning expectations.

Important information to be aware of:

Professionalism

  • Inappropriate items such as chewing gum, ear-pods and speakers should not be brought into school.  Any inappropriate items that are brought into school will be confiscated.
  • Remaining 'in bounds' on the school site especially at break and lunch times.
  • Following the one way systems.

Respect

  • Do not smoke. You cannot smoke or vape anywhere on school grounds. If you get caught smoking or vaping you will receive a 50 minute referral and you will be expected to discuss your smoking habit with a member of staff trained in helping young people stop smoking. Persistent offences can result in internal suspension or exclusion in the most serious cases.
  • At school legal highs (including all forms of electronic cigarettes) are classified as banned items. If a student is caught taking a banned substance anywhere on the school grounds or whilst representing school (e.g. travelling to and from home), the student will receive a fixed term suspension (after an investigation). If you are caught dealing, supplying or selling illegal substances in school the student may be permanently excluded.

Integrity

  • Following staff instructions first time without 'push back'

Illegal substances and banned items

No illegal substances must be brought into school. Students bringing such substances or items into school could be suspended. Any student who brings such substances into school and involves other students in their use could be permanently excluded.

The following items are classified as banned items

  • Offensive weapons (e.g. Knives no matter how long the blade)
  • Lighters
  • Cigarettes
  • E-cigarettes / Vapes
  • Laser pens
  • The selling of goods without permission unless a legitimate school activity
  • This is not an exhaustive list and therefore students/parents may be informed of changing circumstances by the Headteacher/Leadership team’

Offensive Weapons

No offensive weapon must be brought into school. This includes sharp knives (no matter how long the blade), multi-tools and guns (imitation or real). Students bringing offensive weapons into school will be suspended and may be permanently excluded.

Form Tutor Expectations

  • Year 7-11 students automatically receive an award for no behaviour points in a fortnight.
  • All tutors must display the student notice board each morning in form
  • During Monday’s ‘Strong Start’, a full uniform and equipment check (including toilet passes) will take place. Tutors should then read out key messages displayed on the student notice board and discuss the weekly PRIDE focus. Students should then read in silence for the remainder of form time. They should bring a book to school with them each day.
  • Tuesday mornings will consist of online assemblies. There will also be a small number of in-person assemblies (not every week) for Houses and year groups. On these weeks, houses will have assemblies on the days outlined below. Tutors will need to complete timetabled activities on a different day if it clashed with an in-person assembly.
  • There will be specific Whole Curriculum activities on Wednesday and Thursday mornings
  • There will be a number of ‘optional’ activities such as video of the day, job of the week, and news links on the Student Noticeboard to use at tutor’s discretion
  • Tutor time should also be used to review WW points and to hold attendance discussions with identified students. The attendance poster should be used as a reference point when holding conversations.

Sixth Form Teachers and Tutors

Teachers of Year 12 and Year 13 students must also award achievement and behaviour points:

  • This helps to keep form tutors informed and enables them to look for patterns across subjects
  • The Sixth Form team often need to refer to this information when liaising with parents, students and teachers
  • Any student who receives 5 or more behaviour points in a fortnight will trigger an intervention by the sixth form team

Informal Rewards

It is important that on a day-to-day basis students are rewarded, where appropriate, by

  • verbal comments
  • comments on exercise books and coursework
  • report to tutor, Head of House, Head of Sixth Form and Curriculum Team Leaders
  • referral to senior member of staff
  • a note in the student's planner
  • letters home to parents

Formal Rewards

A comprehensive system of rewards is operated in the school linked to ‘The Wilmslow Way’.

  • Rewards are linked to SIMS behaviour points and text messages sent when appropriate
  • Certificates and prizes are awarded for full attendance at the end of each term and for the full school year.
  • Rewards breakfasts are held for students at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Rewards are given for each subject area and for particular categories, for example, ‘outstanding contribution’.
  • Houses award a ‘Student of the Term’ award at the end of each term.
  • Certificates are given for participation in Inter-House activities.
  • Curriculum areas each have their own rewards systems.
  • Whole school rewards evenings
  • Rewards visits
