There are 2 tasks. task 1 is for students who have studied GCSE Food. The second task if for those students who didn't. See below for further information.

What are ultra processed foods?

Ultra-processed foods typically have five or more ingredients. They tend to include many additives and ingredients that are not typically used in home cooking, such as preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners, and artificial colours and flavours. These foods generally have a long shelf life.

Why are ultra-processed foods bad for us?

Ultra-processed foods often contain high levels of saturated fat, salt and sugar and when we eat them, we leave less room in our diets for more nutritious foods. It’s also been suggested that the additives in these foods could be responsible for negative health effects.

Task;

1) watch the following Panorama programme on Ultra processed foods

BBC One - Panorama, Ultra-Processed Food: A Recipe for Ill Health?

And read the following article

Banning ultra-processed food is not a nanny-state issue. It’s common sense | Simon Jenkins | The Guardian

What is Britain eating? The ultra-processed truth about 10 of our bestselling foods | Nutrition | The Guardian

2) Write a health promotion leaflet/tv campaign or presentation which outlines;

should people be cutting down on ultra processed foods? If so, why? to what level?

Which foods should people be avoiding? How can consumers avoid it?
