A key element of the project is the logbook that is maintained by the student. This document outlines the process undertaken during the project - rather like a diary, including all the activities such as reading, interviews, research, sketches, prototypes, drafts and discussions that have taken place.
The logbook must be updated weekly and shown to the supervisor. It is used as part of the assessment process, particularly for Assessment Objective 1.
Attached is a sample template that can be used by students. Alternatively a word document can be used. Many students simply purchase a notebook and use that to record their activities by hand.
Note - carrying out an activity that ultimately plays no part in the final project should still be recorded in the logbook. For example, reading a book that is not referred to in the dissertation should be recorded. Emailing a university tutor with a question, even if you don't receive a reply, should be logged. Sketching an early version of an artefact that is never used should be included. They all demonstrate your process and can help boost your marks.
Activity Log to use - just keep adding to it....
