1. Downloading the Zoom Client - on computer

  • You can download the Zoom application before your first lesson so it is ready for you to start.

2. Joining a lesson

  1. Find the link on your firefly task
  2. Choose 'Join a meeting' in zoom
  3. Enter the Personal Meeting ID and Password

3. Signing in

There are two options (both will work)

1. Enter your school email address and password (the same way you log into firefly)

2. Choose SSO (sign in with single sign-on). If you choose this option the Company Domain is: wilmslowhigh

5. Downloading the Zoom App on mobile devices

Where possible, always join Zoom lessons on a large screen device such as laptop or tablet. Sometimes you may need to join on a phone so here are the instructions...

6. What can I do in lessons?

Once you have joined the lesson, you will see a menu bar at the bottom of the screen that looks like this (if you can't see it just move your mouse and it will appear).

Your teacher will be very clear about what you should and shouldn't do in lessons - if they want you to speak or display your video they will request

1. Unmute: This is how you can Unmute so you can speak to your teacher (DO NOT unmute unless your teacher has said that is ok) - if your teacher asks you to speak, try not to be too shy - we all feel like this a bit when we first start using zoom!

2. Start Video: This is where you turn on your camera/webcam. This means your teacher and the rest of the class will be able to see you (DO NOT start video unless your teacher asks you - most lessons will take place with video off)

3. Participants (this is where you can raise your hand): If you click here you can see who else is in the class. When you press this button you can also 'Raise Hand'. This will let your teacher know you have a question.

4. Chat: Your teacher might ask you to answer questions in the 'Chat'. If they do, press the Chat button and type your question or answer. You can either send to 'Everyone' or 'Host only' ('Host Only' will send a private message to your teacher. (DO NOT send silly messages)

7. Zoom / Live Lesson student expectations

  • You need to think very carefully about behaviour in Zoom lessons. It is a very different experience for you and your teacher so don't do anything that you know is going to be unhelpful or disruptive during lessons.
  • Teachers have the ability to remove you from Zoom lessons if you misbehave and this will result in a school sanction using the Wilmslow Way.
  • Try to find a quiet place to join a Zoom meeting where you won't be disturbed - wear headphones.
  • Make sure that you are wearing appropriate clothing, and have nothing inappropriate or distracting in the background
  • Only use the Chat function if you are asked to - don't type anything silly and remember the chat is saved throughout the meeting.
  • You will start meetings muted and with your camera off.
Only Unmute and enable Video if your teacher asks you to do so.
